Clamp the workshop vise with the right force, then file the piece across with full strokes — finish twelve master-craft pieces in a row before three slip away.
Controls
Space (hold → release): crank the vise, release while the gauge is in the green band · Mouse/touch drag: pull the file edge-to-edge across the piece · Enter: restart
How to play
Tips and detailed strategy
Vise is a two-phase craft simulation: first clamp the piece with the right pressure, then file it with the right number of full strokes. Twelve customer pieces come to the bench in turn; each shows its material (knotty oak, yellow brass, ceramic tile, hardened steel), required clamping band (e.g. 38-52%) and required file strokes. Each piece is two phases. Clamp phase: Hold Space. The vise crank turns and the force needle rises 0 → 100. Release while the needle is inside the green band. Release early → the piece slips out of the jaws (life −1). Release late → the band is exceeded and the piece cracks (life −1). Soft materials want a narrow, low band; hard materials want a wider but higher band. A successful clamp shows a green check and unlocks the file phase. File phase: With the piece locked, drag the file across it. A 'stroke' only counts if the cursor reaches both red edge markers — short jitters don't count, and very fast pulls cause the file to skip (warning shudder). Reach the required stroke count and the piece is done, scored, next customer is called. You have 9 seconds; running out costs a life. Scoring: 100 base points per piece, multiplied by material difficulty (oak 1×, brass 1.3×, ceramic 1.5×, steel 2×). Releasing the clamp near the center of the band adds up to +30 'precision' bonus. Streaks of 3/5/8 errorless pieces multiply your incoming points by +1/+2/+3 (broken by any failure). Your best shift score is saved in the browser. Tip: the needle starts slow but speeds up by the late rounds — don't aim for the moment the needle ENTERS the green band, aim for the moment it LEAVES it. While filing, sweep wide and even — small wiggles don't register; pull all the way to both edge marks.
