Rhythm — free browser game

Rhythm is a minimalist rhythm game, played with the keyboard or touch, that tests your sense of timing with a ring that expands outward from the center of the screen. Each round a bright gold ring starts growing from the center and moves toward a stationary white target circle; the moment the two rings perfectly overlap is the correct hit instant. You need to press the SPACE key (or tap anywhere on the screen on mobile) the second it touches the target. Your score varies with the precision of your hit: if you are within ±10 pixels of the target line you get a PERFECT (+3 points, a green glow on screen), within ±26 pixels a GOOD (+1 point, a yellowish flash), and if you miss this window it counts as a MISS and you lose one from the life bar. Three MISSes in a row end the game; conversely, completing 30 successful hits wins the round and writes you onto the high-score list with your final score. Every 8 successful hits the ring's expansion speed increases a little and the tempo rises, so your reflexes are truly tested toward the end; in addition, the combo that builds up as you hit consecutively pulls the score multiplier higher, and big jumps are captured with a PERFECT streak. Strategy tip: fix your eyes not on the edge of the expanding ring but on the thick white line of the target circle; players who focus on the center react late, while those who focus on the boundary catch PERFECTs.
