Tips and detailed strategy
Steam Locomotive puts you in the engineer's seat of a single-line steam train; your job is to stop precisely at each oncoming station to board passengers. There are three controls: up arrow (or W, or the green Throttle button) opens steam and accelerates the train, down arrow (or S, the red Brake) engages the air brake, and space or the whistle button is just a salute from the cab. Every platform has a gold centre line surrounded by a wider green band: stop on the gold line with the train's front nose and you score 'TAM ORTA!' for +2 points and +28% fuel; stop anywhere in the green band but off-centre for a 'good stop' worth +1 point and +14% fuel; roll past the platform without stopping in the green band and the station is missed — three misses end the run. Fuel drains both with the throttle and from a passive boiler burn; if it hits zero and you're fully stopped, the run also ends. Stations spawn ahead at varying intervals; the top-left '→ Station: X m' tells you how far the next platform is. Strategy: don't pin the throttle — settle the train at a moderate speed and start braking early as a platform nears, because the full braking distance is around 150 metres. Cut the steam ahead of the platform and feather the brake to glide to a near-zero stop on the gold line. Chase TAM stops for fuel; good stops only break even.
