Tips and detailed strategy
The wind blows from the top of the screen toward the bottom and, like a real sailboat, you can't sail directly into it: when your bow comes within ±42° of the exact wind direction (upward) the sail luffs (pinching/luffing), your speed drops to zero and the boat is pushed back by the wind. That's why, to reach targets upwind, you have to zigzag — that is, to beat to windward. You turn the rudder with ← / → (or A / D); the boat always moves in the direction its bow is pointing, at a speed that depends on the current sail angle: fastest when it takes the wind on the beam (a beam reach), slowest dead downwind. The compass at the bottom left shows your bow (the green needle) and the red 'no-go' slice; if the needle enters the red you're luffing, so bear away a little. Your task is to round buoys 1, 2 and 3 IN ORDER, passing through their yellow rings; once you've cleared all three, the chequered FINISH line at the top activates, and the moment you touch it the harbour is completed. The time is counted at the top; whoever finishes in the shortest time takes the record, and the record is saved automatically. To start, press Space/Enter or any arrow key; with R, the Restart button, or any arrow key on the finish screen, the course is set up again (with the buoys in new places). Tip: the buoys are laid out left-right-left, so after rounding each one you have to switch tack again and cross to the opposite board; while luffing, don't panic and over-correct — if you keep the rudder just outside the no-go slice you'll climb most efficiently.
